Introduction

Welcome to the privacy policy for Bank Finder, a Google Chrome extension and API service owned and operated by BorrowBe Inc. ("BorrowBe," "we," "us," or "our"). Bank Finder is an independent tool under BorrowBe's ownership that helps users find public banking information (such as bank branch names, addresses, phone numbers, and transit codes) gathered from official bank websites.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Bank Finder extension and API (collectively, the "Services"), how we use and manage that data, and the choices and rights you have regarding your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data in a transparent and secure manner, consistent with industry best practices.

By using the Bank Finder Services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our data practices, please discontinue use of the Services. We may update this policy from time to time (see the Changes to This Policy section), and we will notify you of any significant changes.

Information We Collect

We collect several types of information through the Bank Finder extension and API, including:

  • Browser Storage: Bank Finder uses browser storage mechanisms (such as cookies and local storage) to enhance your experience. For example, we store your sidebar preferences using cookies to remember your preferred layout settings. These storage mechanisms are used solely for functionality purposes and do not contain any personal information. You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings.
  • Personal Information: If you register for a Bank Finder account or API access, we may collect personal details such as your name, email address, and other contact information during the signup or registration process. This information is used to create and manage your user account, authenticate you, and communicate with you (for example, sending service updates or responding to support requests). We will also collect any information you directly provide to us (for instance, if you contact customer support or submit feedback). We do not collect any sensitive personal details beyond what is necessary for registration or payment (if applicable), and we will never ask for information like your financial account numbers or social insurance numbers through the extension.
  • Usage Data and Logs: We automatically collect certain usage information when you interact with our extension or API. This includes data such as your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, and device identifiers, as well as log information about your use of the Services.
  • Location Data: Bank Finder may request access to your location (for example, via the Chrome extension's use of the browser's geolocation API) only with your explicit permission. If you grant access, we collect your device's approximate geographic location solely for the purpose of providing location-based banking results, such as finding the nearest bank branches or ATMs.
  • Banking Information: As part of providing our Services, Bank Finder accesses and compiles publicly available banking information from official bank websites. This includes details like bank branch names, addresses, phone numbers, operating hours, and transit or routing codes.
  • Payment Information: If Bank Finder ever offers paid features or a subscription for the API, we may collect payment-related information. All payments would be processed through a secure third-party payment processor (such as Stripe), so we do not store your full credit card numbers or financial account details on our systems.

We limit our collection to the information that is relevant for providing and improving the Bank Finder Services. We do not intentionally collect any sensitive categories of personal data such as race, religion, health data, or others not described above. We also do not knowingly collect any personal information from children (see Children's Privacy below). If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal data from a minor, please contact us so we can promptly delete it.

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes, all in line with operating and improving the Bank Finder extension and API service:

We want to emphasize that we do not sell your personal information to advertisers or any third parties, and we do not use your data for purposes unrelated to the core functionality of Bank Finder.

All the uses of data are solely to provide, maintain, and enhance the extension and API services, to communicate with you, and to comply with the law. If we ever intend to use your personal information for a purpose substantially different from those listed above, we will update this Privacy Policy and, if required, request your consent.

Data Sharing and Third-Party Services

We understand the importance of keeping your information private. We never share or disclose your personal data to third parties except in the few situations described below, each of which is aligned with providing or supporting our Services (and never for selling or profiting off your data):

Aside from the cases above, we do not share, sell, rent, or trade your personal information with third parties for their own marketing or other purposes.

We also do not disclose any user data to the banks or financial institutions that we list via the Service – when you search for a branch, that query is handled by our system and we fetch data from our databases (populated from public sources), so your personal search queries are not sent to the banks themselves.

Any third-party links or integrations (for example, if the extension provides a link to navigate to a bank's website or Google Maps) are there for your convenience; we are not sharing your data with those sites, but if you click and visit them, be aware that you will be subject to their privacy policies.

We ensure that all third-party partners who might process your data agree to strong data protection obligations. If you have questions about the specific third parties we use, feel free to contact us for more information.

Data Security

We take data security seriously and have implemented a variety of measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction. These measures include:

While we strive to protect your information with these measures and follow industry best practices, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee absolute security of your data. However, we will continue to update and enhance our security practices as new threats emerge and as technology improves.

In the unfortunate event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law, and we will take all reasonable steps to mitigate the issue.

User Rights and Choices

We believe in being transparent about your data and giving you control. Depending on your jurisdiction and the nature of your interaction with Bank Finder, you have certain rights and options regarding the information we hold about you:

To exercise any of your rights, please contact us (see the Contact Us section below). We will respond to your request as soon as possible, and in any case within any timeframes required by law (usually within 30 days). Please note that certain rights may not apply in all regions, and some data we may exempt from deletion requests if it is necessary for us to retain (for example, fulfilling a legal obligation or resolving disputes).

If we decline a request, we will explain the reason (such as, we cannot delete data we must keep for legal compliance). We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights – for example, if you ask to delete your data, we will not deny you any service that doesn't require that data (though certain features might become unavailable).

Information Retention

We will retain your information only for as long as it is needed to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, or as required or permitted by law. Below is an overview of our retention practices for different categories of data:

Once the retention period expires or the purpose for retaining the data has been fulfilled, we will securely dispose of your information. This may involve deleting it from our servers and instructing any third-party processors to delete it as well. In some cases, rather than deletion, we may anonymize the data so it can no longer be associated with you.

Children's Privacy

Bank Finder is not directed to individuals under the age of 17, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Our extension and API are intended for use by adults or with adult supervision. The extension is available for use on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browsers, and users must meet the minimum age requirement of 17 years to use our services.

If you are a parent or guardian and you believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child without proper consent, we will take steps to delete that information from our servers as soon as possible.

We encourage parents and guardians to supervise their children's internet usage and to help enforce this policy by instructing minors not to use the Services or provide personal data without permission.

Changes to This Policy

We may update or revise this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, legal requirements, or for other operational reasons. When we make changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this Policy to indicate when those changes go into effect.

If the changes are significant, we will provide a more prominent notice – for example, by posting an announcement on our website or notifying users via email (for those with accounts) about the update. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we are protecting your information.

If you continue to use Bank Finder after any updates to this Policy, it will signify your acceptance of the revised terms. However, if any change requires your consent (e.g., if in the future we were to collect additional data or use it in a new way that requires consent by law), we will obtain that consent as appropriate.

Should you disagree with any changes to this Privacy Policy, you may discontinue use of the Services and request us to delete your data (as described above). Historical versions of this Policy may be requested from us if you wish to see how our policies have evolved.
